Check out the iconic long-distance view of the bridge over the New River Gorge on Monday, November 25. Long Point Trail in New River Gorge National Park is an easy walk in the woods for most of its 1.2 miles (one-way). The last quarter mile is rocky but goes to panoramic views of the gorge and bridge. We will then drive to Fayetteville. Adventuresome types are welcome to continue to the trailhead for the Bridge Trail, which is described as: “Rocky and steep at times, the trail offers unique and intimate views of the bridge”. It is slightly less than one hour to get UNDER the bridge, although the distance is less than one mile. You can opt for ONLY Long Point, and if you are carpooling with other hikers who want to venture further, you are welcome to browse downtown Fayetteville. Either way, we may eat at one of the many restaurants there, although you are welcome to bring your own snacks and food.
To carpool/caravan from Lewisburg, meet at The Hub at 9:00 a.m. Please understand that we may need additional persons to drive, depending on number of hikers.
Youth must be accompanied by a guardian and the adult must stay with them during the activity. ActiveSWV has developed a new online program which provides FREE membership and access to all FREE programs. Please fill this out at www.activeswv.com or fill it out at the hike. Even if you sign up online, let the leader know on this site if you are coming.
