** Canceled ** Celebrate summer ...join us on a 3.7 mile hike around Lake Sherwood. Beaver activity, reptiles, amphibians, birds and other wildlife are often spotted on this fairly easy trail at Lake Sherwood Recreation Area and Campground in the Monongahela National Forest. After the ActiveSWV hike, you may choose to sign out and stay at Lake Sherwood to swim on your own. The designated swimming beach has a sandy bottom and shoreline, and is popular with campers and visitors alike. There are restrooms and a changing area near the beach. The office also rents kayaks, canoes, and paddleboats (https://greenbrierriver.com/lakesherwood/). Any activities after the hike are not sponsored by ActiveSWV or the hike leader. Meet at The Hub in Lewisburg at 10:00 a.m. to carpool/caravan. Depending on the number of persons, additional drivers may be needed. It takes slightly over one hour to drive to Lake Sherwood. Bring a lunch and/or snacks. Hiking boots or shoes are recommended due to the distance and type of trail. If you are planning to stay for other activities on your own, bring supplies. (There is a changing room at the beach.) If you wish to meet the group at the lake, contact the leader on this site. Also note that while the hike (and swimming if you choose to do that on your own) is free, there is a $5/vehicle charge to enter the area. Participants will be asked to contribute to the fee, if possible. Participants are asked to sign an online waiver or sign in-person at the beginning of the hike. Registration to any Active SWV free programming indicates acceptance of our liability waiver for every adult and child attending. https://activeswv.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Release-Assumption-of-Risk-and-Indemnity-Agreement-Please-Read-Carefully-A-separate-form-must-be-completed-for-each-adult-and-minor-I-or-the-MINOR-identified-below-who-is-less-than-18-years-o-1.pdf Active SWV requests participants and volunteers NOT attend group programs if experiencing any of the following. • Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19? • Are you experiencing a cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat? • Have you had a fever in the last 48 hours? • Have you had new loss of taste or smell? • Have you had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours Regarding Community Captain Programs and groups of children: All Active SWV Community Captain programs are family friendly; children are invited to attend with the expectation of a parent/guardian ratio of 1 guardian adult to 5 children. It is our expectation for larger groups of children (e.g. Scouts, youth groups, etc), that an adult to child ratio of 1 adult to 5 children be observed in ages 5 and under, and 1 adult to 10 children be observed for ages 5 and above. If you haven't already Join MemberPlus today, start here: https://members.activeswv.org/member-application All hikes are made possible through Get Active In The Park, a partnership between Active SWV and the National Park Service. Get Active in the Park activities are perfect for grand-families, groups with multiple interests, and individuals. All are welcome! Youth are encouraged to attend but must be accompanied by a guardian and the adult must stay on site during the activity. Get Active in the Park is an innovative partnership between the National Park Service and Active Southern West Virginia. Trained Community Captains deliver free, beginner-level instructional programs to the New River Gorge region. Get Active in the Park empowers our community to see outdoor spaces as a place for health and wellness to take place
