Greenbrier River Trail Hike

Tuesday, March 3, 2026 (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EST)

Description

Community Captain: Becky About This Event: - A highlight of the Greenbrier River Trail is the 402-foot long Droop Mountain Tunnel located at Mile Marker 30.9. Trail access is about one mile before the tunnel. Hike at your own pace, but plan on walking for 2-3 hours total. Hiking/walking will be easy, as this is a nationally-known rail trail with no more than a 4% grade over its entire length. The tunnel is DARK, so bring a flashlight. Also bring snacks and water. Meet at the Hollowell Park lot on GMS Drive in Lewisburg at 9:00 a.m. to carpool/caravan. A small contribution for gas ($2-$3) is appreciated but not necessary. Whether you plan to meet there or at the trailhead, contact the leader ON THIS PAGE ahead of time for planning. Parking is limited at the trailhead so all participants must contact the leader in advance. Depending on number of hikers, additional drivers may be needed. Here is the FB page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1367844966948468 It is public, so you should be able to send a message. Youth must be accompanied by a guardian and the adult must stay with them during the activity. Active SWV has developed a new online program which provides FREE membership and easy, easy access to all FREE programs. Find it at www.activeswv.com. You can also fill out a waiver in person at the hike. Even if you register online, PLEASE tell the leader ON THIS SITE IF YOU ARE COMING. We may stop somewhere in Lewisburg for a late lunch and fellowship after the hike, but that is not necessary! ***Again, our hikes are for anyone from any county. If you haven’t explored this part of southern West Virginia yet, it’s a great place to visit. You can be home by dark from this adventure n or shine') Stay Connected: Greenbrier County and Beyond Active SWV Hikers Questions? Contact hello@activeswv.com with any questions. Registration to any Active SWV free programming indicates acceptance of our liability waiver for every adult and child attending. https://rpb.li/rNo
