Description
Join us on Saturday, November 9th, for a special trip to a converted fire tower in Monroe County, now used by birders to track raptors. Check out the log book for sightings and enjoy spectacular 360 degree views of Virginia and West Virginia mountains. The climb is about one mile of steepness, but there are rest stops along the way, and remember – you get to go down! Then you are invited to sign out of this ActiveSWV hike, but continue on to Sweet Springs Resort, an historical hotel/sanitorium dating from the late 1700s. The buildings are only open on selected dates, but we can take a self-guided outside walking tour and and a short hike to a camping area (and amazing tree). It is about 30 minutes from Hanging Rock, and on the return trip to Lewisburg, we drive through Gap Mills. (Just saying....Cheese and More for a snack?)
To carpool/caravan from Lewisburg, meet at The Hub at 9:00 a.m. Please understand that we may need additional persons to drive, depending on number of hikers. If you prefer to meet at the trailhead, be sure to let the leader know. Bring water and snacks; hiking poles and shoes with good soles are recommended, but not necessary.
Youth must be accompanied by a guardian and the adult must stay with them during the activity. ActiveSWV has developed a new online program which provides FREE membership and access to all FREE programs.
