This hike features beautiful lake views, rocky terrain, and forested paths—a favorite spot for outdoor lovers and those looking to experience one of West Virginia’s most scenic areas. What to Expect: • A moderate hike along rugged trails and lake overlooks • Opportunities to explore the popular climbers’ area and coves • Great photo spots and plenty of fresh mountain air How to Prepare: • Wear sturdy hiking shoes with good traction • Bring water, snacks, and dress for fall weather • Bug spray and trekking poles optional but helpful on rocky sections • Meet at the Summersville Lake State Park parking area before 2:00 PM

Regarding Community Captain Programs and groups of children: All Active SWV Community Captain programs are family friendly; children are invited to attend with the expectation of a parent/guardian ratio of 1 guardian adult to 5 children. It is our expectation for larger groups of children (e.g. Scouts, youth groups, etc), that an adult to child ratio of 1 adult to 5 children be observed in ages 5 and under, and 1 adult to 10 children be observed for ages 5 and above.
