Adventure on the Allegheny Trail in Monroe County
Saturday, June 20, 2026 (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
(EDT)
Description
: Adventure and Picnic on the Allegheny Trail in Monroe County. Saturday, June 20th. With several options: (A) Meet at Hollowell Park in Lewisburg at 9:00 a.m. to carpool to the Hanging Rock trailhead. Note that the hike leader will NOT be there, so be prepared to arrange carpools there. The last mile up to the hanging Rock trailhead is winding but very doable in a regular vehicle. As always, a small donation for gas is appreciated but not required. Meet the hike leader at the trailhead, where we will start our seven (7) mile hike on the Allegheny Trail. Hike will end at a private home, where we will sign out of the ActiveSWV portion of the day and enjoy a picnic lunch. Food will be provided (because who wants to carry extra weight over seven miles), but guests will be asked to split costs. Don’t worry - it will be simple picnic fare.
(B) Meet directly at the trailhead at 10:00 a.m.
(C) Hike up to Hanging Rock, sign out of the ActiveSWV hike, and return down the hill to your vehicles. At this point, you can shop in Gap Mills, relax, take a nap, go home…..or eventually drive your vehicle to the destination of the hike to join in the picnic. Anyone can choose this option, if seven miles at a moderate pace sounds difficult. No judgment!
As you can see, this hike involves a lot of coordination, so you absolutely must contact the hike leader no later than June 17th, specially if you are picnicking. Use the FB Page Greenbrier County and Beyond Hiking Group with ActiveSWV to comment or send a message.
Youth must be accompanied by a guardian and the adult must stay with them during the activity. Active SWV has developed a new online program which provides FREE membership and easy, easy access to all FREE programs. Find it at www.activeswv.com. You can also fill out a waiver in person at the hike.
Registration to any Active SWV free programming indicates acceptance of our liability waiver for every adult and child attending. https://rpb.li/rNo
Please do not attend programs if you are not feeling well. Regarding Community Captain Programs and groups of children: All Active SWV Community Captain programs are family friendly; children are invited to attend with the expectation of a parent/guardian ratio of 1 guardian adult to 5 children. It is our expectation for larger groups of children (e.g. Scouts, youth groups, etc), that an adult to child ratio of 1 adult to 5 children be observed in ages 5 and under, and 1 adult to 10 children be observed for ages 5 and above.
