Swimming Holes of WV Hike

Monday, August 10, 2026 (11:00 AM - 1:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Summertime in West Virginia means….swimming holes! Meet at Hollowell Park in Lewisburg at 11 a.m. to carpool/caravan to the trailhead. A small contribution for gas ($2-$3) is appreciated but not necessary. And then…..we’re going to visit two of the best swimming holes right here in Greenbrier County. *** Any activities in the water are NOT part of the Active SWV hike. Both swimming holes are along Anthony Creek which is a tributary of the Greenbrier River. “Blue Hole” is about ¾ mile from parking at the Anthony access along the Greenbrier River Trail. We’ll skip it, however, to continue another mile to “Cat’s Eye”. This will involve crossing Anthony Creek in ankle-deep water (you need some kind of waterproof shoes for this, like Crocs or water shoes - the rocks are slippery - and you will need a pole or a “found” stick). How to dress: No changing rooms so plan ahead. Hiking boots or shoes with good soles for the trail. Separate footgear to wear in the water. Pants that can be rolled up or zipped off at the knee for the creek crossing, or devise a way to keep your pants dry. On the trail itself, there may be poison ivy and stinging nettles. What to bring: Snacks or lunch, water, sunscreen, bug spray. A small towel. Small float boards or pool noodles, if you want. Youth must be accompanied by a guardian and the adult must stay with them during the activity. Active SWV has developed a new online program which provides FREE membership and easy, easy access to all FREE programs. Find it at www.activeswv.com. You can also fill out a waiver in person at the hike. Please contact the hike leader on the Greenbrier County and Beyond Hiking Group with Active SWV if you plan to attend. Registration to any Active SWV free programming indicates acceptance of our liability waiver for every adult and child attending. https://rpb.li/rNo Please do not attend programs if you are not feeling well. Regarding Community Captain Programs and groups of children: All Active SWV Community Captain programs are family friendly; children are invited to attend with the expectation of a parent/guardian ratio of 1 guardian adult to 5 children. It is our expectation for larger groups of children (e.g. Scouts, youth groups, etc), that an adult to child ratio of 1 adult to 5 children be observed in ages 5 and under, and 1 adult to 10 children be observed for ages 5 and above.
