Community Captain: Race and Sarah About This Event: Beginner friendly top rope rock climbing with two amazing volunteer guides. If you have ever wanted to check out rock climbing, learn what is required, and test your ability to participate in this activity safely, this is for you. What to Expect: • There is a steep walk to the climbing area, you will walk out and back, please wear appropriate shoes and clothing for a moderate hike. • Equipment provided! • No experience required, climbers must be over 12 years of age and minors must all be accompanied by a parent/guardian How to Prepare: • Bring water for drinking, wear sunscreen, bug spray, etc • Check email communications the day of, in case of weather related cancellation. Pre-registration is required. If you are unable to get this platform to register, it is likely that the participation limit has already been reached. Questions? Regarding Community Captain Programs and groups of children: All Active SWV Community Captain programs are family friendly; children are invited to attend with the expectation of a parent/guardian ratio of 1 guardian adult to 5 children. It is our expectation for larger groups of children (e.g. Scouts, youth groups, etc), that an adult to child ratio of 1 adult to 5 children be observed in ages 5 and under, and 1 adult to 10 children be observed for ages 5 and above. Get Active in the Park activities are perfect for grand-families, groups with multiple interests, and individuals. All are welcome! Youth are encouraged to attend but must be accompanied by a guardian and the adult must stay on site during the activity. Get Active in the Park is an innovative partnership between the National Park Service and Active Southern West Virginia. Trained Community Captains deliver free, beginner-level instructional programs to the New River Gorge region. Get Active in the Park empowers our community to see outdoor spaces as a place for health and wellness to take place.
Waterstone Outdoors
You will access the program through the Summersville Lake State Park. Enter the park and drive/follow signs to the climber's access parking lot. Meet ASWV staff and volunteers in the parking lot for equipment distribution and to walk to the climbing area.
